New Paintings!

The most popular portion, new paintings from the last two months. I'm excited to put up some paintings  and get some feedback. They are from several classes, and for personal practice. I have been taking two great painting classes from two awesome teachers. Damon Mohl an awesome painter and experimental film maker. Zi Zhang, who is quickly becoming one of colorado's largest artists, but would die of bashfulness if he ever admitted it.

"You gotta live my life to get boots like these"
oil glaze over acryllic underpainting on canvas 24"x36"

This was an imaginative self portrait for Damon's class.

"Over the Rainbow"
Oil on canvas 18"x24"

With this piece i wanted to make a statement about our modern culture, that uses novelties like, TV, Movies, and Video Games to shut out the real world. The achromatic part is a tragic war photo, the parts in color are an homage to the first ever Technicolor film "The Wizard of Oz".

"pour some sugar on me"
mixed media on canvas 24"x36"

My roomates often complain about the subjects of my paintings, however nude modeling is practice of volunteers, and as a student I don't get to choose.

 "Boo Radley"
Acrylic on canvas 18"x24"
A model study for my class, with improper horticulture to add flair.

"quetzacoatyl's hippy bus"
acrylic on canvas 18"x24"
A piece made for Zhi Zang.

"shakran' awe"
acrylic on canvas a8"x24"

another priject for Zhi Zang

 "roustabout"
Mixed Media 36"x50"

A visual representation of the song "roustabout" by Beats Antique, O responded to the circus influences in the song, made of Zhi Zang

"Uncle Chuck"
oil on wood 30"x48"

This is a present for a friend and a practice in color variations, optical local and abstract for Zhi Zang

"juvellian"
Oil on canvas 24"x36"

A still life for Damon Mohl, using various items from our apartment.

"secret meeting"

An achromatic still life.

"Male bust"

Drawing class

Unfortunately my two favorite works from this class are hanging up in the hallway at our school. But here are just a few of the drawings from Ania Kumor's class. This class has been incredibly helpful to me. My drawing has improved so much from learning a strict construction drawing method.  I have a few more assignments from this class that i need to take pictures of, I'm excited put up the rest of the pieces.

This piece was a still life of my hookah that naturally took an alice in wonderland twist.

This still life of assorted metal parts welded together, was an exercise dealing with disorienting the eye, in order to view a shape in tones instead of lines.

From a similar exercise on the organic side of things, these are dead palm leaves.

Stay tuned for more wacky still-life, involving wrapped mannequins and, assorted orbs. I'm also working on an interesting drawing with a morbid obesity theme.

more posters

Just a few more posters i made to help decorate our apartment. My roommates added mustaches before i could take a picture but i suppose it adds character.

Props Projects

Props was one of my favorite classes, I love to make creative projects and bring things to life. I thought I would share two of my favorite projects

This is a cockentryce it was a popular feast dish in medieval times. They would take the top half of a chicken and sew it to the bottom half of a pig before they cooked it.

This is an Okapi. It's a real animal and if you don't believe me look it up.

Rendering

These are just a few of the assignments from my rendering class this year.

This is a 1/2" sketch done for the artistic direction of a scene that takes place in an aquarium.
A watercolor painting of the architectural details of a building.
